Is competitive pokemon played on the computer or DS?

I was looking into competitive pokemon battling (I’ve been training my team for a while now) and I came across something on Smogon that said the majority of competitive play is on a GAME SIMULATOR on the COMPUTER! You could say I’m gonna be just a little bit ticked if thats the case because I’ve been working hard on the DS to play on the DS and I don’t even want to play on some online simulator. Is everything I’ve read all about wi-fi on the DS or a game simulator on the computer? Thanks, I’m kind of confused now.

There are two slightly ways to play it. There’s wifi and competetive. The main differences are the lack of perfect IV’s, Not much else is different. Before in 4th gen, rotom forms and stuff like that were banned on wifi but not on others because pokemon diamond’s wifi couldn’t get them and they jsut turned into regualr rotom. But the tiering is the same, and so are msot of the pokemon. But you won’t see as many uncommon pokemon because people actually have to train it. So you’ll see a lot of ferrothorn and stuff, but not as many alomomola or eviolite golbat.

So both are used.

Edit: you could also test a team out using an emulator and if it’s good, make it with the game and use it on wifi
